Clinically reviewed by Daniel Lewis, MD, Board Certified Addiction Medicine

At Yellow Wood Recovery, we’ve designed our admission and treatment process to be as smooth and supportive as possible. We understand that reaching out for help takes courage, and we’re here to make every step clear, respectful, and clinically appropriate.

From your first call to aftercare planning, we guide you through every step of your recovery journey. Care is coordinated across a continuum so your plan can adjust as your needs change because recovery is not one-size-fits-all.

  • Most insurance accepted
  • Same-day admission
  • Confidential care

Admissions: (916) 820-4747
Available for immediate help

Your recovery journey begins with a simple phone call or online form submission. Our admissions team is available to answer your questions, listen to your concerns, and provide immediate support.

What to Expect:

  • Compassionate, judgment-free conversation with trained admissions specialists
  • Discussion of your current situation and treatment needs
  • Overview of our programs (residential detox, inpatient treatment, IOP, PHP)
  • Answers to questions about our facility, approach, and what to bring
  • No pressure—take the time you need to feel comfortable

Remember: This conversation is confidential. We’re here to help, not to judge. Many people call multiple times before they’re ready to take the next step, and that’s perfectly okay.

We work with most major insurance plans and will verify your coverage quickly—often while you’re still on the phone. Our goal is to remove financial barriers and help you access the care you need.

What We’ll Need:

  • Your insurance card information (we can look up details with just your member ID)
  • Authorization to verify benefits on your behalf
  • We’ll check coverage for detox, residential, and outpatient services
  • Clear explanation of your out-of-pocket costs, copays, and deductibles

Good news: Most insurance plans cover addiction treatment, and we can often get you approved for same-day admission. We handle the paperwork so you can focus on getting help.

Before admission, our clinical team conducts a comprehensive, multidimensional assessment to understand your needs and determine the safest starting point in care. This assessment is not a one-time checklist, it creates the foundation for ongoing, responsive treatment planning and level-of-care decisions.

Assessment Components:

  • Substance use history, patterns, and current risks
  • Withdrawal risk, medical history, and current health status
  • Mental health screening, symptoms, and co-occurring conditions
  • Prior treatment experiences and what has/has not helped
  • Living situation, support system, and recovery environment

Based on this assessment, we’ll recommend the most supportive place to start, whether that means medically supervised detox, residential care, PHP, IOP, or a combination over time. Because needs can change during stabilization and recovery, your care team reassesses regularly and may step services up or down to support safety, progress, and readiness for greater independence.

Once your assessment is complete and insurance is verified, we can often admit you the same day. We’ll guide you through what to bring, how to get here, and what to expect during your first 24 hours.

Your First Day:

  • Arrival and check-in process (typically 30-45 minutes)
  • Medical evaluation by our nursing and physician team
  • Orientation to our facility, program rules, and daily schedule
  • Meeting your primary therapist and care team
    Room assignment and settling in
  • Introduction to other patients and community norms

What to bring: Comfortable clothing for one week, toiletries, any prescribed medications (in original bottles), insurance card, ID, and personal items like photos or journals. We’ll provide a detailed packing list during your pre-admission call.

Your treatment experience at Yellow Wood Recovery combines evidence-based therapies, medical care, and holistic wellness to address the full picture of recovery including substance use and mental health needs when they occur together.

Core Treatment Components:

  • Individual therapy sessions with master’s level therapists
  • Group therapy exploring recovery skills and peer support
  • Family therapy and education (when appropriate)
  • Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) when clinically indicated
  • Psychiatric care for co-occurring mental health conditions
  • Life skills training and relapse prevention planning
  • Wellness activities including fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness
  • 12-step introduction or alternative recovery pathways

Treatment length varies based on your individual needs and progress. Residential programs are based on clinical necessity and can range from a few days to a few months, while IOP and PHP programs offer flexible scheduling with 3–5 days per week attendance. Your care team reviews progress regularly and adjusts services as medical stability, mental health symptoms, recovery supports, and readiness for independence change.

Recovery doesn’t end when treatment ends. Aftercare planning begins early and evolves alongside your clinical progress. Before you complete our program, we work with you to build a comprehensive plan that supports continuity of care and reduces relapse risk.

Aftercare Services Include:

  • Step-down planning (residential → outpatient → community support)
  • Connection to local support groups and recovery communities
  • Ongoing therapy referrals (individual, group, family)
  • Alumni program participation and peer support
  • Sober living referrals if needed
  • Vocational support and educational resources
  • Follow-up check-ins to monitor progress and provide support
  • Crisis support and relapse prevention resources

Lifelong support: Once you’re part of the Yellow Wood family, you’re always part of our community. We’re here whenever you need guidance, encouragement, or a reminder that recovery is possible.

Common Questions About Our Process

In many cases, we can admit you the same day you call. Once we verify your insurance and complete a brief clinical assessment, we can arrange transportation or provide directions to our facility. For those needing detox, immediate admission is often recommended.

That’s completely normal. Many people call us multiple times before they’re ready to start treatment. There’s no pressure—our team is here to answer questions, provide support, and help you make the decision that’s right for you. Sometimes just having the conversation is the first step.

Your treatment is completely confidential and protected by federal privacy laws (HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2). We will not disclose any information about your treatment without your written consent, except in specific legal circumstances. Many patients take medical leave or personal time without disclosing the specific reason.

We accept most private insurance plans and offer private pay options. Our admissions team is available to answer questions about coverage, costs, and payment expectations, and to help you understand what options may be available to you. If you have concerns about affordability, please call us, we’re happy to talk things through and help you take the next step.

Phone access varies by level of care. During inpatient treatment, including detox and residential, phones are not permitted for the first few days to support stabilization and adjustment. After this initial period, residential patients may use their phones during the day when not in groups or scheduled programming. IOP and PHP patients retain their phones. Specific guidelines will be reviewed during the admission process, and all policies are designed to support safety, focus, and recovery.

We provide medically supervised detox on-site with 24/7 nursing care and physician oversight. You’ll receive medications to manage withdrawal symptoms safely and comfortably. Most detox programs last 3-7 days, after which you can seamlessly transition to residential treatment if needed.
